At Mayflower Modeling, it's important for us to keep our customers and viewers regularly updated on what's going on at HQ. In that regard, we have some exciting news to share with you this week. Our Australian website has been live for some time now, following an extensive project focused on localizing our services, and we were recently contacted by Greenpeace about commissioning a model ship for them. This is a huge achievement for us as it represents the success of our Australian website which we have invested a lot of time and work in over the past year.

Greenpeace protests fervently against environmental destruction and peace around the world. The organization is known for its complete independence from Governments and is therefore free to protest against policies that may cause damage to the environment.

They are passionate about non-violent forms of protest that aim to ensure the future health of our planet by preventing environmental destruction. Greenpeace is recognized and applauded around the world for being a voice for the environment, because it cannot speak for itself.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific

Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP) is part of the global Greenpeace movement, which aims to achieve the same goals, but especially in Australia and the Pacific. The organization dates back as far as 1977 in Albany, Washington, when a small group of protesters gathered at the last whaling station.

Greenpeace Australia was formally established in 1987, following a merger of officials from New South Wales and Adelaide, and subsequently gained worldwide recognition for protecting baby seals and protesting against uranium mining.

In 1994, Greenpeace Pacific was established in Fiji. In 1998, Greenpeace Pacific and Greenpeace Australia merged to form GPAP, and with the support of 70,000 financial contributors, they campaigned on a range of issues related to environmental protection. These include but are not limited to; protesting against nuclear waste shipments, eliminating toxic pollution, preventing harmful climate change, and supporting sustainable fishing.

There has been extensive coverage of the work done by Greenpeace; let us share with you more information about the ship model we will be building for them. The ship, named Arctic Sunrise, was originally built in 1975 and designed as an icebreaker. She was acquired by Greenpeace in 1995. She has a gross tonnage of 949 tons, a length of 50.5 meters and a maximum speed of 13 knots.

Under Greenpeace, she has been widely used to help with protests against whaling, oil drilling and advocating for clean energy. In 2013, she ran into trouble during a routine protest against oil drilling and was tragically detained in Russia for 300 days. During this time, Greenpeace continued to campaign to secure her release.

As this project is a custom model, we have never built a replica of the Arctic Sunrise before, which means that special care and attention will be required to ensure that the model is completely accurate. This would involve procuring ship plans and implementing a high level of attention to detail during the construction process.

The project deadline has not been finalized yet, but our early estimates are based on the end of January. As this is a fairly short period of time, especially considering it's a customized version and Christmas is just around the corner, it's going to be a daunting task, but we're sure we can get it done.

We will utilize our extensive experience in handcrafting model ships to ensure that the finished product is of the highest quality and finest detail.
